Privacy policy

Companyhaus is built to stay out of your business. This policy sets out exactly what happens to data when you use the extension and this website, in plain terms.
The short version. We do not track your browsing. We do not read the pages you visit. We do not sell or share your data. The only personal information we hold is the email address of paying subscribers, and only so we can run their subscription.
Who is responsible for your data
Companyhaus is operated by Leadhaus, 479 Cricklade Road, Swindon, SN2 1AQ, United Kingdom, which is the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law. Contact us at quicklookup@theleadhaus.io.
What we do not do
- We do not track or record your browsing history.
- We do not read, store or transmit the content of pages you visit.
- We do not sell, rent or share personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not set tracking cookies. See our cookie page.
- We do not use your data to assess anyone's creditworthiness, and we are not a credit reference agency.
What the extension accesses
When you choose to look up a company, the extension sends only the name or company number you searched to our service, which retrieves the matching record from the Companies House register and returns it to you.
The web address of your current tab is read locally, inside your browser, purely so the extension can suggest which company you might mean. It is not transmitted to us, or to anyone else, unless you click to run that lookup.
What we store, and where
On your device
- your settings
- a count of lookups used today, so the free daily limit works
- a randomly generated install identifier that contains nothing personal
- your licence key, if you subscribe to Pro
Uninstalling the extension removes all of this.
On our service
- Free users: the install identifier and a daily lookup count, held briefly so the limit can be applied. This does not identify you.
- Pro subscribers: your email address, subscription status and licence key, held so we can provide and manage your subscription.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Under UK GDPR we rely on two legal bases. For subscriber details, performance of a contract, because we cannot run your subscription without them. For the install identifier and lookup counts, legitimate interests, specifically operating a fair usage limit and protecting the service from abuse.
How long we keep it
Daily lookup counts expire automatically within about 24 hours. Subscriber records are kept for the life of the subscription and then for up to six years afterwards, because tax and accounting law requires us to retain records of transactions.
Who else is involved
We use a small number of providers to run the service. They process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
- Stripe processes payments. Card details go directly to Stripe and are never seen or stored by us. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare hosts the service that retrieves company records.
- Vercel hosts this website.
- Resend sends transactional email, such as your licence key.
- Companies House supplies the company data itself, via its public API.
Some of these providers operate outside the UK. Where personal data is transferred abroad, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or standard contractual clauses.
Company information is public record
Details about companies and their officers shown by Companyhaus come from the Companies House public register and are published under the Open Government Licence. We do not add to that information, and we are not the source of it. If you believe a record about you on the register is wrong, that has to be corrected with Companies House directly, we cannot change it.
Your rights
You have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email quicklookup@theleadhaus.io and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes affecting subscribers will be notified by email.
